Vihiga County government has plans to provide National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to its residents in a move that will enable locals to access better medical service.
Speaking at Kaimosi during a free medical camp, the area Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi said the insurance fund programme will be rolled out this month.
Saisi said the plan is at an advanced stage and the residents will soon be issued with NHIF cards.
“The County government is determined to improve medical services and the Ministry of Health will focus on public health and disease prevention,” Saisi said.
He added that all health facilities in the County are stocked with enough drugs.
On education matters, the Deputy Governor reiterated that the County government has increased bursary per ward from Ksh 1 million to 8 million to cater for needy cases in the County.
Saisi said the County government is going to employ Early Childhood Development Education (ECD) Teachers on a permanent and pensionable basis to enable them to execute their work well.
“ECD teachers have been suffering for long but we have plans to employ them on a permanent and pensionable basis and give them a good working environment to execute their mandate well,” said Saisi.
