Gambogi Market at Hamisi in Vihiga County has been earmarked for a facelift. The area Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the County Government has set aside Kshs 20 Million for the project.
The market lies at the border of Kisumu and Nandi Counties and has been neglected for years by previous regimes and Ottichilo said his administration is determined to improve the look of the market.
“The market serves locals from three Counties and this brings cohesion in the region, we as a County Government we will make sure the project is completed on time to improve services at the market,” Ottichilo said.
He added that the County government might be losing revenue collected at the market to Kisumu County noting that he has put up mechanisms in place to address that.
“Am informed we might be losing a lot of revenue collected in this market to the neighbouring Counties, but we are well placed to deal with that and make sure we double revenue collected from this area,” reiterated Ottichilo.
