The Vihiga County government has launched a hatchery and aquaculture training centre in Wemilabi, Luanda Sub County. Speaking at the launch, Vihiga County Governor Wilber Ottichilo said the project is a one of a kind project in the Western region.
It’s set to benefit 1,200 farmers in Vihiga. “It’s a one of a kind project in this Western region, this project of fish eggs will be availed….when we wanted them, we had to go to Dominion in Siaya but that centre was also closed. Now if you want the fish eggs you have to go to Nyeri, even these ones here we had to go to Sagana and Nyeri,” said the Vihiga Governor.
Vihiga residents will also be able to get quality fish from the farm cutting the costs of going to Lake Victoria for fresh fish. The launch was graced by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative in Kenya Gabriel Rugalema among other leaders, Vihiga Agriculture CEC Pamela Kimwele among other leaders.
