Vihiga residents have opted to send 16 Members of County Assembly home in the just the concluded general elections to voice their will. The county assembly has new members who will champion the interests of the people and act as a watchdog to the executive.
The residents, however, retained other eight members after one MCA Wilberforce Kitienzo decided to go for Vihiga MP Seat but he lost miserably. The county has 25 wards and Amani National Congress (ANC) party led by Musalia Mudavadi has the majority of members with nine seats.
It is followed by the Progressive party of Kenya(PPK) led by outgoing Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga with six members, ODM three members, Ford Kenya two members, Independent two members and UDP, KADU Asili and FPK sharing one slot each.
In the last county assembly UDF led by Musalia had more members and the outgoing governor had only one member of PPK in the assembly but managed to ensure crucial bills in the assembly were passed and enacted.
The governor elect has shown interest in working with all MCAs despite their party affiliations to initiate bills meant to benefit the residents.
“It does not matter which party you belong to. The election period is past us and we must work together as a team for the benefit of our people who we promised to work for,” said Ottichilo.
The noted MCAs to be shown the door by the voters include former deputy speaker Richard Muhiga (Shamakhokho ward-ANC), majority chief whip Abdalla Chogo (Central Maragoli-Independent) and majority leader Andrew Ahuga (North Maragoli-ANC).
The deputy speaker was floored by Douglas Beru of PPK, majority chief whip by Evans Chunguli (ANC) while majority leader was shown the door by Dominic Ivusa (Independent).
