More than 30,000 tree seedlings have been planted ahead of the World Environment Day celebrations on Sunday.
Through a program dubbed Ecosystem Restoration, the Department of Environment, Water, Energy and Natural Resources has partnered with Anglican Development Services-Western (ADS-Western) and Equity Bank, a move that has seen Vihiga surpass the required 10% forest cover.
The two months’ activity that involved the Community Forest Association (CFA), County staffs, ADS-Western and Equity Bank has reclaimed 25 acres of the degraded area of Maragoli hills.
Ecosystem Restoration program has also achieved its objectives that included; Society towards sustainable environment conservation, creating awareness on the link between environment and health among others.
