Vihiga County Commissioner Pauline Dola has warned politicians against using the youth to cause chaos during the campaign period. Dola said vulnerable youth were being used by some selfish politicians to create disturbances during their rivals’ campaign meetings to gain political mileage.
“We must campaign in a peaceful environment. Youth who are used by politicians for their self-interest should desist from such habits,” said Dola.
She noted that the youth involve themselves in campaign chaos after being given free alcohol by the self-centered politicians.
Dola who was speaking at Kidundu grounds in Vihiga Sub County during Madaraka day celebrations also said that hate mongers during campaigns will be arrested and prosecuted so as to be a warning to others. “We must cease from the habit of hate speech. We endeavour to live in peace and harmony during and after elections,” said Dola.
She said police have been trained to deal with hate mongers and the National cohesion and integration commission (NCIC) have given out recorders to the police to be used during elections. “We will use the recorders as evidence and those who will be found culpable will be prosecuted,” maintained Dola.
