Vihiga Senator George Khaniri on Saturday visited the home of three family members who were butchered by thugs on Friday. Villagers at Busamu area could not control their emotions as the mother of Kennedy Ambani who together with his wife Elizabeth and their 10-year-old Gifton were slashed to death, narrated the sad ordeal to the Senator.Their other daughter Anne has been admitted in hospital after the attack.

She recounted how three of her grandchildren cheated death as they hid  under their bed during the deadly attack. “Senator, we could be faced with a very serious tragedy if three of my grandchildren hadn’t hidden under the bed when the thugs struck,” she explained as she sobbed. Khaniri said security officers in the County had failed in their core responsibility of protecting its citizens. He added that last year three watchmen were killed in Kilingili market, last week a man and his wife were brutally murdered in Itenji in Central Maragoli and the Busamu incident was clear evidence that the security team was incompetent.”Where is the government that is supposed to protect its people?” he posed, “Where is the arm of police?”

He said that police wasted too much energy of pursuing chang’aa brewers and boda boda riders at the expense of criminals who were operating with impunity. Khaniri said he is saddened with cases of murder in the County and said he will raise the matter in the Senate on Tuesday. He wondered why nobody has been arrested in the Itenji and Busamu murder cases. “I’m aware residents here raised an alarm during the attack but police arrived after three hours,” he added. He said he will stand with the family to ensure victims were accorded a decent send off and the survivors completed their education.
