Vihiga County kicked off climate change investments which aim at setting up projects that help in mitigating, adapting and building resilience towards effects of climate change.
Through directorate of climate change that is domiciled in the Environment, Water, Energy and Natural Resources department, four pilot projects have been identified after intensive vetting process that was conducted by the Vihiga Climate Change Planning Committee.
The projects include; Buhani irrigation scheme in Mungoma ward, Ipali water project in West Bunyore, Juakali water project in Mwibona and Kimigoi water project in Gisambai ward.
Speaking after inspecting the rehabilitated Buhani water/irrigation scheme in Mungoma ward, Director Climate Change Winston Atamba said the project aims at addressing food security and will empower more than 200 households economically upon completion.
He added that the four pilot projects are being funded by the Vihiga Climate Change Fund kitty.
