Traders in Vihiga County have been urged to maintain a high level of cleanliness as the heavy rains continue to pound in the area. Speaking during the inspection exercise of the markets in the area, Kennedy Avisa an officer from the Department of Trade and Tourism in the County, said the region is experiencing heavy rains and called upon traders to clean their areas of operation to prevent disease outbreak.
He said the markets that have been affected by the heavy rains are Serem, Shamakho, Mudete, Chavakali, Mbale, Majengo, Gambogi and Luanda.
“Am calling upon all traders in the County to be disciplined and make sure they clean their areas of operation to prevent any disease outbreak in the region,” said Avisa.
He advised those traders who have erected Kiosks over the drainage systems to demolish those kiosks for proper water drainage and cleanliness of the markets.
“We have realized many Kiosks have been erected along the drainage system and we are humbly calling upon the involved traders to demolish those kiosks or we will bring them down,” he said.
