Kakapel Location Chief in Teso North Vincent Etyang has raised an alarm over the drinking of ‘chang’aa’ brew and smoking of marijuana by the youth in his location. Speaking during the burial of Miriam Arupia at Kekalet village, Etyang regretted the middle generation may not prevail since most of the youth are becoming impotent.
“Chang’aa that is sold in sachets has become the order of the day with the youth who have reached the age of getting married, getting addicted instead to the illicit chang’aa and bhang. I am appealing to all leaders to intervene and advise the youth on the dangers of alcohol so that they can do away with this worrying and culture,” he said.
The Chief said they will convene a meeting of all stakeholders on Thursday this week in a bid to come up with measures to curb this worrying trend.
Etyang also raised concerns over incidents arising from the infamous night dance gatherings commonly known as ‘disco matanga’ which are still in full swing despite the government’s ban and warned those involved with them of dire consequences.
He cited an incident in the area last week when some youths who tried to block the outlawed gathering were injured after being stoned in the ensuing melee.
