Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa has dismissed calls for Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula to issue an apology over his remarks concerning CORD principal Raila Odinga at a meeting in Narok. The request came from the Luo Council of Elders, who were not pleased with Wetangula’s remarks when he urged Raila to support another presidential candidate in the opposition. He even gave an example of a married lady who had failed to sire children, alluding to the situation with the CORD leader.
The remarks have sparked criticisms from the Luo council of elders who have now demanded an apology from Wetangula, saying his sentiments demeaned Raila Odinga and portray him as a leader who can’t handle any tasks he is given.
Dr. Wamalwa has supported Wetangula’s remarks and has reiterated that the Luo Council of elders misunderstood the remarks and took them out of context, adding that they should clearly ask for the meaning of the phrase used, instead of running to the media to complain.
“The Luo council of elders’ request for Wetangula to apologize because of his remarks at the past meeting is wrong and the words were quoted out of context, he didn’t insult Raila, they should visit me for clarification,” said Chris Wamalwa.
Wamalwa said Wetangula used the remarks as a proverb, adding that he meant ODM leader Raila Odinga should change his strategy, to tackle the emerging political trends. He said the CORD principal has been contesting for the presidency but has failed so far, and Wetangula was referring to a change in handling the issue this time round.
He argued that all the three presidential hopefuls in the CORD coalition Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, and Raila Odinga should be treated as equals in the coalition and that there was no one superior than the other in the coalition calling for respect for all the presidential hopefuls within the coalition.
