The Baenjere clan in Kenya has declared that they will support the Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s gubernatorial bid come 2017.
Speaking during the Ngelemwa national welfare development for all the Baenjere in Kenya association meeting held in South Wanga, Mumias West Sub County, Kakamega County, the clan said that they will back Wamalwa’s bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Joseph Malala Sakwa who is the group’s vice chair, hosted the meeting at his home in Ebuyenjere village. Addressing the press, he said that Wamalwa is best suited to hold the position since he has leadership experience calling upon all Kenyans to give him an opportunity to rule the County.
He added that the group will not take any political stands during next year’s elections though explaining that they will work with whichever government takes over.
He said that as a group advocating for unity and development, they respect the ruling government. This was seconded by the clan’s chair Makokha Kwanusu, who explained that they unite and dine in an effort to fight poverty among its clansmen.
Kwanusu said that they hold meetings in various counties in Kenya to encourage the youths and young families to unite and grow religiously besides fighting drugs.
He said that youths are encouraged to go to school as a way of fighting backwardness and ensuring that the clan promotes good values that can change the society.
Janet Khisa, the Maendeleo ya Wanawake chair in Bumula who is also a member of the clan by marriage called upon residents of Nairobi to give Wamalwa an opportunity to lead them saying that he is the best candidate offered.
She said that as women they are advocating various communities in Kenya to vote for Wamalwa. The association was started in Bungoma in 1995 by the late Michael Wamalwa and has 250 families in the former western province registered as members.
