Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa have agreed to set aside their differences and work together for the prosperity of the Bukusu community and Western region at large.
The two planted a tree at Mabanga ground as a show of their new found unity and later signed a unity pact which they promised to keep in a ceremony that was convened by Bukusu Council of Elders and the church leaders in Bukusu community.
The leaders said that their political rivalry had hurt their community and it was time to sacrifice their political ambitions for the betterment of the residents, “This community has suffered immensely because of our disunity and misunderstandings, this community has lost out on many things because of us not standing together and this community has many times been disgraced because of lack of selfness of our leaders,” said the leaders.
The two leaders said that what was witnessed yesterday was in the spirit of reconciliation and they are now going to focus on uniting the Western region communities and the whole country at large. “ We call upon our elders, the clergy, MCAs, members of parliament and all leaders to spread this handshake to all parts of Western and to every part of our country.” said CS Eugene Wamalwa.
The leaders further said that they will be reaching out to all Western region leaders to speak with one voice for the prosperity of the region. The event also saw the two leaders being installed as the spokespersons of the Bukusu community by the Bukusu Council of elders.
