The 11 member select committee in the National Assembly votes and saves Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in the fertilizer saga after finding that the reasons for the motion to oust him were not substantiated.
7 out of 11 members of the committee voted to save Linturi from being implicated in the distribution of the fake fertilizer in the country.
The 11 member National Assembly select committee chaired by Marsabit Woman Rep Naomi Waqo had six members from Kenya Kwanza side, four from Azimio and one from Jubilee and they included; Samuel Chepkonga (Kenya Kwanza), Rachael Nyamai (Jubilee), Jane Maina (Kenya Kwanza), Robert Mbui (Azimio), T.J Kajwang (Azimio), Moses Injendi (Kenya Kwanza), Catherine Omanyo (Azimio), Kassim Tandaza (Kenya Kwanza), Yusuf Farah (Azimio) and George Murugara (Kenya Kwanza).
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka had listed three reasons in the motion to oust Linturi; gross misconduct, gross violation of the Constitution or any other law, serious reasons to believe the CS had committed a crime under national law.
Wamboka presented the impeachment motion to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula who gave it a nod that it met all the requirements of the law and the standing orders. Wamboka moved the motion in the 13th house where a total of 149 members voted in favour of the impeachment motion while 36 rejected it and three abstained.
A third of the 349 members were required to vote for it to move to the next level.
The select committee had hearing sessions for three days and heard from both sides; the motion mover and the accused sides where they concluded on Friday 10th May and presented the report today in the National Assembly according to the period of ten days they were given to submit the report.
