KCSE examinations kicked off in Trans Nzoia with a few students facing hiccups. A student missed her examination in Kiminini Sub County while another one was forced to do her examinations at Bikeke dispensary after experiencing labor pains while doing her Mathematics paper.
She was rushed to the dispensary accompanied by her teachers where she gave birth and continued to do her examinations while at the facility. The nurse said the student was in a stable condition.
Elsewhere, in a private school named ‘God Bless You’, a student failed to do her morning Mathematics paper due to allegations that she was pregnant, and teachers didn’t give her the test papers, despite the fact that she was registered as a candidate.
It took the intervention of the county director of education Joseph Wamocho who upon visiting the school, ordered the teachers to give her the exam papers.
The county director said he was perturbed with the manner teachers at the school denied the student an opportunity to do her Mathematics paper and was puzzled by the mechanism used to tackle the problem.
“The student, Index 23 at the school was denied the paper which she had registered for the paper and it was her right to do the paper for which she was registered on,” said Obwogo.
And at Kitale’s St Josephs National school in Trans Nzoia county, examinations went on smoothly with the principal Peter Obwogo confident that the school will continue to lead in the county.
County Director of Education Mr. Joseph Wamocho said that tight security and monitoring had been deployed in exam centers.
Wamocho said that a team of educational officials had been tasked to monitor the exam adding that measures were in place to ensure there is no cheating.
“We have employed all mechanisms to ensure there is no cheating. There is a monitoring team tasked to ensure there are no irregularities,” said Wamocho.
Obwogo said the students are well prepared to tackle the examinations and was optimistic the school will register some good grades when the results will be announced next year. “We prepared our students well and I’m confident that we are going to post good results and attain our target of a mean score of 12.00 compared to last year’s 11.02,” he said.
He said that the school had registered 367 candidates and all would get straight A’s, Last year the school had 316 candidates out of which 73 got straight A’s.
Another academic giant St Anthony Boys Kitale registered over 400 candidates with the school principal Mr. Cosmas Nabungolo expressing confidence of good results following a high quest for excellence from the students.
