Ford Kenya’s Bungoma County gubernatorial candidate Wycliffe Wangamati has appealed to the Tachoni community to support his bid after choosing his running mate from the community, Charles Ngome Kibanani.
Speaking during a meeting with residents, from Webuye East constituency, where he met members of the Tachoni community, during the launch of his deputy aspirant’s bid, Wangamati said that Bungoma County has a lot of resources but it lacks good leadership which will make good use of them.
He said that the County has received a lot of money since the inception of devolution but there is no meaningful development realized due to poor leadership and corruption. “Our County has received billions of money but to be sincere, there is little that has been done in terms of development. Am reliably informed that in the 2016/2017 budget, some eight hundred million shillings has been allocated for entertainment yet Panpaper has been sold cheaply,” he said.
He used the opportunity to sell part of his manifesto to the residents, which includes plans to eradicate poverty by setting up an industrial park, which will attract investors and create job opportunities for the youth in Bungoma County.
In the education sector, he assured residents that his administration will make sure the bursaries benefit the less privileged in the society, and children will receive at least an allocation of ten thousand shillings to enable them to continue with their studies. He added that Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers will be well equipped.
He urged County residents to vote for NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, given that he will increase County funds allocation up to forty-five percent, and this will enable Counties to make tangible progress.
His deputy Prof. Ngome said that their administration, if given an opportunity, will work with all communities in the County. He added that they’ll support the business community, so that the County develops, “We want people to realize the tru meaning of devolution,” he said.
