In a significant turn of events, Wangila Wabomba, former Chairman of the Meru University Students’ Association (SAMU), was yesterday elected as the new Chairman of the Meru University Alumni Association. The election took place during the Alumni Annual General Meeting held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi and was presided over by Ambassador Dr. Muthaura. He takes over the mantle from Prof. Kimathi.
This moment marks a historic milestone in the annals of the university’s leadership, as Wangila becomes one of the youngest individuals to chair the alumni association. His previous leadership as student council chairman was notably turbulent, culminating in the unprecedented dismissal of then Vice Chancellor Prof. Magambo, a saga that defined an era in the university’s governance.
The event drew high-profile dignitaries, including the current Chairman of the University Council, Prof. James Ireri Kanya, and the Vice Chancellor of Meru University, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of the transition and the growing influence of the alumni body in shaping the university’s future.
