Arsene Wenger has moved to praise his team after their great performance which saw them smash Watford 3-1 in a premier league battle that was led by Mesut Ozil during the weekend. Wenger has moved to praise German playmaker Mesut Ozil who put on a show and rightly appeared to be the man of the match, saying that he had a great impact in their win, considering that this was his first start in a match this season.

“Özil was excellent, especially in the first half. In the second half we dropped physically, but of course, we need him. I think what we have seen from him today is what we want of him, assists but also to score goals. That’s what he needed to add to his game.” Said Wenger.

He moved to say that even though his team did not own and take control of the match for the whole 90 minutes, to him, it was a great performance in comparison to other matches they had played earlier on, especially against Liverpool, where they were trounced 4-3 at the Emirates Stadium. That result, coupled with the barren draw against Leicester, led to frustrations from supporters, but the result against Watford seems to have reinstated belief in the team. “Overall I think it was a strong performance, very fluent in the first half, In the second half, we still created many chances, but we are not yet capable of maintaining the same intensity, and level of physicality for 90 minutes,” Wenger said. Santi Carzola, Mesut Ozil, and Alexis Sanchez both rattled the net against Watford in a flowing first half performance, before Roberto Pereyra, formerly of Juventus, responded back with one goal for Watford. The club’s next fixture after the international break sees them come up against Southampton, who are still adapting to their new manager’s ideas and philosophy.
