Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya have come out to dispel the notion that they were endorsed as Luhya spokesmen. Addressing an education stakeholders meeting at Kibabii University, the duo said their main aim is to bring the people of Western Kenya and help in reviving the economy. CS Eugene said he is in charge of 47 Counties under his devolution docket as well as Governor Oparanya who is the chairman of council of governors, and that they cannot be interested to be clans spokesmen again.
He said the senior politicians from the region claiming the rights of the position can keep it. He added that there is light at the end of the tunnel after President Uhuru Kenyatta wrote off Mumias and Nzoia companies debts, noting the sugar companies will now roar back to life. He also clarified that few leaders from the region contributed to buy the Nzoia Sugar Company football club bus contrary to claims they had to borrow money from President Uhuru Kenyatta for the bus. The CS added that he will be touring Western Kenya together with other Cabinet Secretaries to commission an array of projects. He cited the Tongaren- Brigadier road saying after the County government did it’s part the national government will be kickstart its portion from Misikhu to Naitiri market, noting it will ease transport activities.
Governor Oparanya took the opportunity to lure the teaching fraternity to support the BBI course saying it will achieve inclusivity and create a country that will unite all factions. He said the Western region has to be in government adding that they’ve had it rough in the opposition. Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati applauded the fronting of the two leaders to spearhead development talks saying by virtue of the positions they are holding, they’ll be able to push the agenda of the people of Western Kenya better.
