Bungoma boda boda have refuted claims by a section of leaders that most of them have been behind the higher number of teenage pregnancies being witnessed in Bungoma in the recent past.
Through their County chair Alex Kisuya while addressing the media in Webuye town said it was the vice of the past but at the moment they have dealt with the issue decisively and such characters were done away with claiming many of them were not boda boda riders and were maligning their reputation.
This comes after Matulo Sub location Chief Mr. Pius Wanyonyi accused them and wanted them to change or face the full force of the law.
Kisuya claimed that he has not received any report on his desk accusing his registered riders of teenage pregnancies and appealed those with evidence to furnish his office and other relevant organs with evidence that befits prosecution.
“I have not received any information associating my people on teenage pregnancies and its very wrong for any reputable leader to accuse us without evidence, we are ready to cooperate if called upon because we also have private riders who use motorcycles so how would you differentiate with boda bodas if you don’t work closely with us to know if one is a boda boda rider? We kindly ask you not to malign our reputation for some riders who may not belong to us,” uttered Kisuya.
Kisuya also used the opportunity to send a warning to boda boda riders who give school going children motorcycles to ride saying he has put in management to oversee the habit and any that will be found will be dealt with and carry his or her own cross but also claimed that some parents who own motorbikes have always been giving their children who are under age and even sending them on errands saying is risky and if any will be found will be arrested together with the parent and serve as an example to others.
