Webuye East MP Martin Pepela Wanyonyi today called on the citizens of his constituency and all Kenyans to uphold and respect religious diversity, emphasizing that Kenya is a God-fearing nation that guarantees freedom of worship for all.
Speaking at the burial service of the late Mzee Mwinami (Omusamo) of Dini ya Msambwa in Masindu Village, Mihuu Ward, Hon. Wanyonyi urged the public to foster unity and mutual respect for various religious practices, recognizing that it is key to maintaining peace and harmony in the country.
“Kenya is a God-fearing nation. We must respect and apply equal treatment to all religions in our country; freedom of worship is guaranteed by our constitution,” he remarked.
The MP also took the opportunity to address the importance of education, stressing that it is the most effective weapon against future poverty. He encouraged parents to continue prioritizing the education of their children as a means of building a prosperous future.
At a separate burial service for retired teacher John TieTie, who was a father to his long-time friend Chibutia, Hon. Wanyonyi expressed condolences. Mr. TieTie, known for his immense contribution to the education sector, will be remembered for the lasting impact he made on the lives of countless students in the region.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” Hon. Wanyonyi said.
In terms of development, Hon. Wanyonyi continues to show firm support for education in his constituency, having recently released over Ksh. 3 million in bursary funds for schools within Namarambi Division.
