Webuye East MP Martin Pepela Wanyonyi has issued bursary cheques to students across the three wards, marking a major milestone in his ongoing commitment to improving academic performance and student retention in Webuye East. The bursaries were handed out to students from Maraka, Mihuu, and Ndivisi wards, underscoring his determination to support every student in the region, regardless of their financial background.
The day also saw the commissioning of modern Science laboratories at Mukhuyu Primary School and Mihuu Comprehensive School, aimed at enhancing the learning experience for students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. These state-of-the-art facilities will provide students with the tools they need to excel and prepare for a successful future.

In his speech, Hon. Wanyonyi celebrated the recent improvements in the region’s school performance, particularly the excellent results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, thanks to his administration’s continuous investments and consultations with education stakeholders.
“I am committed to ensuring that every student in Webuye East has access to quality education,” said Hon. Wanyonyi. “The investments we have made, from bursary funds to infrastructure development, will help improve academic outcomes and support a thriving learning environment for our children.”

Hon. Wanyonyi also made a landmark gesture by officially handing over two acres of land to Savannah Secondary School in Mihuu Ward, resolving a long-standing land dispute. This gesture will allow the school to expand its infrastructure and better serve its students.
Additionally, plans are already in place for more infrastructure development, including the renovation of classrooms and the establishment of school gates in the coming financial year.
As Hon. Wanyonyi expressed gratitude for the support of local leaders, including Maraka Ward MCA Hon. Ali Balala, he called on the government to allocate more resources, equipment, and laboratories to support senior class students, ensuring that they are equipped to meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive world.
“This is just the beginning,” said Hon. Wanyonyi. “We will continue to work hard to ensure that our students have access to the best resources, opportunities, and learning environments. The future of Webuye East lies in the hands of our children, and we are committed to helping them succeed.”
