West Media Limited prides itself with educating and motivating students especially within the Western region and country wide by allowing them to visit the station and have a field day to learn about the stations structure, how each department works and interact with experts.
St. Elias Iyabo high school from Mumias and Modong high school from Teso are some of the schools that visited the organization this week.
On Friday 15th, the Moi Girls Nangili High School journalism club fraternity from Likuyani sub county in Kakamega marched into the west media premises, each student with a tag reading ‘Journalism club, Nangili Girls high school’ and in a lively attitude that impressed the west media staff.
The energetic troop was led by their Patron Mr. William Matoke Abuche and the Chairlady of the club Miss. Harriet Chausiku together with their reverend Mr. Watila.
According to the patron, the club had been created years back but it was not active.
He took it upon himself to revive the club early last year after he joined the school.
Among the achievements they have had to date are that they have been able to do labeling round the school, research, write, edit and present news on parade each week, attend inter school club meetings and also produce an annual magazine called “Maninga”.
Mr. William explained that they wanted to visit a media house that was diverse in the sense that it incorporated all types of media and programs, and also appreciated the culture of the region in order to motivate his students who were interested in the different niches of journalism.
“West Media Limited allayed that to us,” said the composed Patron.
The students had an opportunity to visit the different sections of the station, which are; the TV studio, radio studio, news desk, production room and the digital desk.
They were able to learn how the different departments work together to be able to educate, inform and entertain as the West Media mission states.
What amazed them, was the exhibit on how to edit recordings and being able to record their voices and speak on air
The chair lady couldn’t hide her joy at the end of it all. “I feel very satisfied and motivated at the same time. Being able to speak on air and also record my voice inspired me to keep working hard in school so that I can pursue this career. We have definitely gained confidence as a club and we are going back to school to revamp our club to better standards from what we have learnt today,” Said the jovial Chausiku.
Reverend Watila commended the West Media staff for being humble, welcoming and willing to share information with his students saying that he was greatly challenged by this passionate crew.
The reverend was thankful to West Media Limited for the opportunity to conduct the tour and urged them to keep hosting other students, so as to motivate and inspire them to aspire for more in the profession.
The tour ended with an exquisite photo session with the West Media staff as students graced the moment with a grand recital of their school anthem.
