West Pokot county commissioner Apollo Okello has invited auditors to audit funds that were contributed towards landslide and floods victims in Nyarkulian,Parua and Tamkal areas in West Pokot county after a section of leaders from the county alleged that Kshs 3 million is missing.
Okello asked the DCI, EACC and auditor general to investigate all the funds that were channeled to the county government, Kenya Red Cross and national government accounts for accountability and establish if the funds were well utilized.
The commissioner said his office received Kshs 10 million which came from the Chinese government and was supposed to be used to resettle those who were displaced.
He said a total sum of Kshs 7.16 million was paid to 223 families who were affected and the remaining balance of Kshs 2.8 million is still intact at KCB Bank.
This comes after the area Governor John Lonyangapuo claimed that some funds which were meant to help the victims who affected after the tragedy that occurred last year in November were missing.
However leaders led by Senator Samuel Poghisio have been accusing Governor Lonyangapuo of misappropriating funds for the victims.
