Preparations for the 2019 population and housing census set to take place on Saturday and Sunday nights this weekend are on the final stages in West Pokot, according to the County Commissioner Apollo Okello. He said all the personnel required to undertake the exercise have been trained.
While briefing CECs in Kapenguria, he affirmed that enough security will be availed during the exercise, “We will ensure that enough security personnel will be deployed and in areas we suspect to be insecure the enumerators will be provided with security” adding that village elders will accompany enumerators in safe areas.
He urged the members of the census committee at various levels to work as a team, saying the success of the exercise will depend on their unity and preparedness, and urged residents to cooperate.
Moreover, chiefs and their assistants have been urged to be vigilant during the exercise and the County Commissioner warned against manipulation of figures, “We are aware that some of the politicians want to ensure that figures got during the exercise are increased, so I’m requesting you chiefs and their assistants to ensure that such stuff doesn’t happen.”
The County statistics officer John Lopuo said the county and sub county committees were tasked of recruitment and training of personnel who will undertake the exercise. He said the committee recruited 1,161 enumerators, 525 content supervisors and 57 ICT supervisors.
