The West Pokot County Assembly building has been set up on road reserves according to Governor John Lonyangapuo. The building, which has an estimated budget cost of over Kshs 400 million, might be brought down.
Speaking in Kapenguria, he said the road reserve was set aside by engineers, who proposed that no construction should be put up because future generations will set up structures like flyovers. “County assembly leaders are a stubborn lot. They set up their building on a road reserve, and it costs around Kshs 420 million,” he said, ‘I look and wonder how comes those who are responsible for setting up laws are setting up structures wrongly? They are breaking the law, this can’t be.”
The West Pokot Governor said his administration will keep checking and establishing government land in order to prosecute those who are culpable and land grabbers.
