A 60-year-old man has been killed by suspected bandits from Turkana County at Karon village along Turkana and West Pokot border. The incident which happened yesterday has sparked tension at the border as suspected bandits are now targeting to shoot and kill residents without stealing livestock.
Confirming the incident, Kases location chief Joseph Korkimul said the man had gone to herd his goats and on his way back home he was shot by six bandits who dashed in the thickets without stealing a single goat.
“He was shot in the back and head four times, the Kenya police reservists who were nearby tried to pursue the bandits but they escaped towards Kakong area in Turkana County,” he said.
Korkimul said they had received reports in the morning that a number of bandits from Turkana County had invaded Karon village and were targeting to raid villages.
He said as soon as he got the information concerning the killing of Mr. Loribit he informed the GSU and Administration police officers who responded and are now on the ground to intensify security.
This comes as elders and security leaders from West Pokot and Turkana Counties were set to hold a security meeting on Tuesday to witness the handing over of a number of livestock that were recovered after being stolen from the Turkana and Pokot communities.
