Leaders from West Pokot County have condemned the National Super Alliance (NASA) move urging supporters to avoid buying goods and services from certain companies and using people assemblies in the Counties to stage economic sabotage.
Speaking during the annual commemoration ceremony of Dini ya Roho Mafuta Pole Afrika at Tamugh village, Governor John Lonyangapuo, Senator Samuel Poghisio, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto and West Pokot County woman representative Lilian Tomi Tom castigated the opposition outfit, saying it’s taking the country towards a wrong direction.
The Governor criticized the opposition for trying to destabilizing the economy and bringing disorder in the country, “We cannot boycott products because of few individuals who are after their selfish interests. People should be allowed to buy things at their own will,” he said.
The County leaders asked the opposition to start laying strategies and sell their policies for 2022 not instead of setting those political moves, “Only four years are remaining and NASA should be recruiting members from villages the way KANU and Jubilee are doing,” he said.
Senator Poghisio said that NASA shouldn’t cause tension and unrest, and urged them not to misuse the freedom democracy provides. He further urged politicians to embrace dialogue, and preach peace.
The West Pokot County woman representative said the move by NASA is uncalled for and it was just a waste of time. “NASA is doing zero work because Kenya is bigger than an individual,” she said, “Our main role is to unite Kenyans.”
She further said that the National assembly is there to perform the duties the proposed people assemblies will do and that the people assemblies have been in existence before but weren’t effective.
She reiterated that the County residents voted overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta, posting a percentage tally of 96%, giving him over 76,000 votes.
