Leaders from West Pokot County have faulted security organs in the country for being lax in dealing with insecurity lapses in Laikipia County and Kapedo border point between Baringo and Turkana Counties.
They castigated the government for failing to tame the escalating insecurity in the region.
The leaders now want top security officers in the country sacked following persistent insecurity and neglect.
Led by West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and Kapenguria member of Parliament Samuel Moroto, the leaders faulted the security team for not responding to the recent incidents and doing little to combat runaway insecurity.
Speaking in Kapenguria, Governor Lonyangapuo said the government has been victimizing the Pokot community alone over the insecurity lapse in the area.
The County Boss asked leaders from the Turkana community to stop inciting locals and creating animosity among neighbouring communities.
Lonyangapuo defended himself over accusations of being behind the Kapedo insecurity by inciting locals in the region.
“I was last there 2015 with President Uhuru Kenyatta and I have never been there since,” he said, “We have many Turkanas staying here in a place called Aramaget and we’ve not chased them.”
Kapenguria legislator Samuel Moroto who spoke at Serewo area blamed security officers working in the area for mistreating and torturing residents in Laikipia County.
The legislator condemned the incident where young children and innocent people were being mistreated. “Our people are being killed everyday and we want the Inspector General of police to resign if he has failed in his duties,” he said.
He faulted the government for remaining silent after insecurity incidents happened in the area. “Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i should work on the insecurity in this region,” said Moroto.
