West Pokot County leader have applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Major General Jimson Mutai Longiro as Kenya Navy Commander designate citing that for the first time in history the Pokot community has got a high ranking appointment in the military.
Led by West Pokot County Governor John Lonyangapuo the leaders hailed President Uhuru for considering the Pokot community and entrusting Mutai with such powerful position. “Hearty congratulations to Maj. Gen. Jimson Mutai for being promoted to Commander of the Kenya Navy. My sincere appreciation to H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and Commander in Chief of Defence Forces for appointing Maj. Gen Mutai who now becomes the first ever officer from Pokot community to serve in this senior military rank and position. I wish him success as he serves our country Kenya,” he said.
Pokot South MP David Pkossing also expressed his delight with the appointment, “The only President in the history of Kenya to give a Pokot the highest position ever in the military. This is total trust by the President towards the Pokot people. Congratulations to my neighbor, Maj. Gen. Jimson Mutai,” said Pkossing.
Former West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin also congratulated Major General Mutai for being a disciplined officer and wished him well ahead of his new task. Major General Mutai was born and raised at Chepinat/Chepkono village in Pokot South constituency. He is set to commence work as the Kenya Navy Commander on May 11th 2020, together with Chief of Defence Forces designate Major Robert Kibochi and vice chief of Defence Forces designate Lt. Gen. Levi Mghalu.
