West Pokot Jubilee leaders have dismissed NASA’s (National Super Alliance) influence in the region and faulted the opposition for having no agenda for the community.
The leaders dismissed the recent NASA visit to West Pokot saying they should concentrate on selling their main policies to locals.
This comes after the NASA team held a rally in the County on Friday. NASA leaders claimed that that West Pokot Jubilee leaders had denied them the opportunity to hold their rally in Makutano Stadium.
Speaking at Ortum, the leaders maintained that West Pokot is a Jubilee zone and residents will vote overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta on 8th August.
The leaders led by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and Pokot South member of parliament Mr David Pkossing urged the opposition to apologize to the Pokot community for portraying the community in the negative image.
The leaders cited that they did not deny the opposition to use Makutano Stadium which is the normal place for political rallies.
“NASA have no agenda for the community. They came and said nothing apart from propaganda and they just spread lies. We need transformational and visionary leaders, not mere lies,” said Kachapin, “They should not come here to insult us, I heard one calling us second-hand citizens,” said Kachapin.
The leaders hit out at the opposition leader Raila Odinga for not telling the community what went wrong with the Sebit cement factory he launched seven years ago when he was the Prime Minister during the grand coalition government.
The County boss took a swipe at his Turkana counterpart Mr Josphat Nanok after he was elected Council of Governors chairman “We elected him recently as the chairman of the Council of Governors and he has started abusing his fellow Governors. He is only two weeks old on the seat and he is there for only two months what if he was given two years?” asked Kachapin.
Nanok had criticized Governor Kachapin for not allowing them to use the Makutano stadium during the visit of the NASA team, and that Kachapin should’ve attended the function. Mr Pkossing defended West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin citing that he did not deny them access to the stadium as it was still under construction.
“They knew that they will not get many people to fill the stadium and that’s why they decided to pitch tent on the road at Chelang’a gardens. We don’t want stories of vitendawili but need development,” said Pkossing. He said that West Pokot County is 99% Jubilee.
