Preparations in West Pokot County for the repeat presidential poll set for Thursday are in top gear. Voting materials are being dispatched from Nasokol Girls high school which is the constituency tallying centre and also the County dispatch centre for election materials.
The security team in the County is alert and they are ready for the exercise. West Pokot County Commander Mr. Mathew Kuto said security officers have been deployed in different areas to provide security for the exercise.
West Pokot County elections manager Mr. John Mwangi said all the voting materials have arrived. He said ballot boxes arrived at 8.00 am and are being dispatched to 713 polling stations in the County. “Voting will also be done at Kapenguria prison which is an inclusive polling centre,” he said.
Mr. Mwangi said that the IEBC has trained all its staff including returning officers, presiding officers, Deputy presiding officers and clerks. He reiterated that they are set to for the exercise. “We have done a briefing with security officers and other stakeholders on the engagement,” he said.
Mr. Mwangi observed that there are no major challenges in the County apart from weather challenges because of the heavy rainfall in the area. “We shall call for an emergency chopper in case the situation worsens,” he said.
He added that the local leadership has been supportive urging residents to turn out in large numbers and vote.
