Residents of West Pokot County have protested the withdrawal of the area Governor’s security detail by the government. This comes after the Governor John Lonyangapuo freed a boda boda rider who was beaten and cuffed to his motorbike by the police who were manning a road block. The Governor removed the metal spikes on the road along the Kitale-Lodwar highway, placed in the ongoing traffic crackdown and implementation of the Michuki rules.
Residents have called on the government to reinstate the security of the Governor.
They’ve defended the Governor saying he has the right to protect residents from police brutality and harassment.
The West Pokot Governor who spoke at Sigor and Marich areas called on the government to transfer security officers involved in mistreating locals and corruption in the County.
