West Pokot residents and leaders demonstrated against inflammatory and inciting remarks made by Turkana County leaders, which they said might destabilize the peace between the Pokot and Turkana communities. The demonstrators said that the recent remarks made Turkana South MP James Lomenen, Turkana Senator Malachiy Ekal Emana and Woman representative Joyce Emanikor has led to a wave of many insecurity incidents along the border of the two Counties.
This comes after a 28-year-old man Lokedurus Losieruku was on Thursday last week allegedly shot by police officers at Lami Nyeusi hot spot area. Moreover, a week ago, a convoy of West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo, three MPs-Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), Peter Lochakapong(Sigor) and Mark Lomunokol(Kacheliba) was attacked. The leaders were going for a peace meeting Takaywa Village to cool down the situation where one person was killed and more than 500 cattle stolen by cattle rustlers.
Residents who marched in Kapenguria town carrying placards and twigs called for the arrest of the Turkana leaders who are inciting residents. Led by Nominated MCA Elijah Kaseuseu and Kapenguria ward representative Emanuel Maddy Polokou, they faulted Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General Joseph Boinent for not taking action and arresting leaders who are inciting residents, and urged President Kenyatta to sack IG Boinnet for not doing enough to beef up security in the area.
