The 2016 Western Kenya Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show will be held at Kakamega Agricultural showground starting 16th June to 18th June 2016.
West Media Limited Company pitched its roots in Kakamega agricultural showground to provide a divine touch with the ever supportive fans who came in multitudes to interact on a personal touch with the company staff in a golden opportunity.
Services offered at the main office were devolved to the locals at the companies stand, loyal listerners had an easy time in interacting with the leading regional media house.
Among the available services that were devolved from our main offices were provision of our Weekly Western Chronicle, there was also the marketing team led by the regional director marketing Ms. Patricia Saiti who provided answers to all sorts of questions regarding ways with which one could advertise with the company through the various available platforms –radio, TV, The weekly publication, social media platforms and the website www.westfm.co.ke.
The students at the show who have a passion in joining the field of journalism had their questions professionally handled by Sakali Dalmus and Bwire Bramuel on what they should and should not do to be successful in the industry.
As it is our norm, media educates, informs and entertains, there was the entertainment aspect where we took to the stage with the audience who had insisted on giving a go at us with their fancy dancing styles and we were really up to the task and had an enjoyable moment with them jeering and cheering their own station presenters.
The ASK show in Kakamega has presented a vast opportunity for potential investors to showcase their products to the farmers who happened to avail themselves from the area.
We happened to speak to one of the leading producers of seeds from the western region, The Kenya Seed company where this annual agricultural show was presenting them with a rare opportunity to showcase their new type of maize seedling invented this year which has many benefits to the farmer as it is able to thrive in the areas with limited rainfall and is also able to produce two cobs in one maize stem this gives more profitability to the farmer.
They too lauded the show this year in comparison to last year where they highlighted that they only had huge numbers of farmers only on the last day of the show that limited the one on one touch with the farmers but this year from the first day they expressed their pleasure with how the farmers had come in to learn modern farming ways.
The official launch of the ASK show is slated for Friday 17th June 2016, with the event expected to be graced by Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong.
Preparations for the launch are in top gear with various Kakamega County officials also expected to be in attendance.
According to Kassim Ndeche, the chair leading the marketing team of the ASK show, the organising team is already impressed with the number of people who had turned up on the first day adding that this showed much positiveness ahead.
“We are more than impressed with the numbers that have turned up, more than what we expected,” said Mr Ndeche who was speaking to West Media said.
“This years’ show has been aided by conducive weather in the first two days, unlike previous years where rains hampered our preparations,”he said.
Entertainment will be led by the Kenya military band and other groups from within and without the County.
Stakes are high in this year’s show with many agribusiness companies, financial institutions, academic institutions and other investors still storming in.
“Exhibitors have already shown a positive response, currently having more than 70 on board, and that can only get better as the show progresses, ” he added.
Each day has been allocated an overall area of focus with this Friday basing its focus on education.
