Leaders drawn from Western Kenya have pledged to stick to the agenda of economic recovery for the region and engaging the national government in meaningful projects that will resuscitate the state of the economy.
The team led by Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya vowed to push on despite attacks by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia, the leaders said they are not interested in petty politics, “We are working on revamping this region’s economy and not indulging in political sideshows,” said CS Wamalwa.
Governor Oparanya said the initiative has already borne fruits with several projects lined up, “This is what we need and not political rhetoric,” he said.
Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said the region will no longer incline its politics towards political kingpins since that path has never been beneficial.
He said locals from Western region in the past have lived in abject poverty and it’s time for leaders to come up with ways of ensuring tangible development is realized.
“The Western region will no longer be concerned about a political supremo. The right leader will emerge at the right time,” said
Governor Wangamati.
Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba said leaders in the region need to change tact in its approach towards economic emancipation.
“We have to re-engineer the way we do our politics to focus on strategies which can drive economic growth,” said Governor Khaemba.
He urged all leaders from the region to join hands and push for development instead of politicking all the time, “I appeal to other leaders to join this development conscious team and help residents to build the region’s economy.”
