Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has hinted at forming a formidable working relationship with Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking in Likuyani, Wetangula said he had already commenced talks with the two leaders on possibility of working as a team in preparation for the next general elections.
The Senator urged leaders from the populous Luhya community to shun clan politics advising them to unite and race together in the bid that will see one of them enter the state house in 2022.
He blamed the community’s woes to diversity of sub tribes and their leaders’ greed saying such differences allowed leaders from other communities to use the Luhyas as stepping stones to achieve their political ambitions and then dump them.
He said for other communities to respect the Luhyas they must unite and speak and act in one political voice. “It’s a pity we have simply agreed to remain a stepping stone for other tribes yet we have the capacity of supporting one of our own,” lamented Wetangula.
He said plans had been mooted to bring together leaders from the region a head of the next general elections and pledged to knit a formidable political union that would portray the Kenyan face.
Terming ODM party leader Raila Odinga as a self-seeker Wetangula urged ODM supporters from Luhya land dissociate themselves from Odinga and join his Ford Kenya party or form a Western alliance that will propel one of them to highest office on the land.
“I can tell you without fear of contradiction that no single Luhya has benefitted from the Raila–Uhuru handshake, but I can name for you over 15 Luos who have been given senior government jobs as a result of handshake. This is a clear indication that Raila is just concerned with his community despite the overwhelming support he gets from the Luhya community,” regretted Wetangula.
