Leaders have failed to lead by example and provide the right guidance in the war against Covid-19, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta who has urged leaders to be responsible and lead the way to tame the spread of the virus. Since the President relaxed measures, political rallies, gatherings have rolled back to full flow, corresponding with a spike in Coronavirus cases across the country.
The President, who said all political gatherings and rallies stand suspended for 60 days, said leaders should take up their role and lead, “They must choose to take the bold decision instead of the popular decisions.” He said leaders have behaved as though the virus is non existent, “As leaders we’ve failed…..I urge leaders to lead by example, let’s not be people who talk and then do the opposite. It’s our role to say and do what we direct others to do,” he stated during his address to the nation on Wednesday.
He told Kenyans not to compare the Covid-19 situation in the country with other nations, saying some nations have chosen to deal untruthfully in regards to the virus. “I want to tell Kenyans, don’t take the freedom we have, to information, to expression, for granted, and then start comparing yourself with other nations,” he said, “Pointing out how things are there and here.” He affirmed that the government doesn’t hide information concerning the severity of the virus since its role is to guard the life of Kenyans.
