Rift Valley’s U16 girls representatives Wiyeta outshone Central’s Njabini in a 4~0 maul to charter a spot in the knockout stage of the ongoing KSSSA national championships in Kisumu on Wednesday afternoon.
Jacinta Karemana collected a brace as both captain Amida Jamila and Swaum Masungo each scored singles to seal the win.
“My girls are confident in the competition. We beat Dagoreti mixed and never were we at the comfort zone. We needed to maintain the consistency which means we must win our third game of the group to finish at the top.” said Wiyeta coach Edgar Manyara
Wiyeta, who’s school principal Beatrice Ingati accompanied them to Kisumu are eying for the Coca-Cola sponsored tournament glory after having been eliminated in senior girls category at the regional finals.
Bungoma County based junior representatives Maeni girls maintained a winning streak thrashing Eastern side Itaara 8~0 to book a place at the semi final even with a single match remaining.
Noel Oruko scored a hat trick before Susan Tototo could bag a brace to register a clean sheet at the 2019 Championships.
Monica Nakamu, Annette Juma and Diana Natembeya each settled with singles sending a clear warning to closer opponents.
Lydia Shisima, Maeni girls principal reiterated that the girls have prepared well for the semis come Friday but right before that they still have a task to complete in the last group match against Kobala on Thursday.
“We’ve not been affected by the environment at the lakeside and therefore we’re fit to proceed even to the final stage. We prepared well before the championships. We thank God for this far and hope to do well in the forthcoming fixtures,” said Lydia Shisima.
