A middle aged woman died on Saturday after plunging herself in Kipkaren River at the border of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties leaving behind a three year old baby.
According to the eye witnesses the woman who is an ECDE teacher looked so depressed and tried to walk in the middle of the busy Eldoret – Webuye highway hoping to hit by a vehicle unsuccessfully as drivers swerved to avoid knocking her.
On reaching Kipkaren Bridge, the woman who was yelling at the top of her voice removed her jacket and threw it on the bridge before she jumped into the flooded river.
Efforts by local divers to try and save her life were futile as they were overwhelmed by strong waves and she was swept down river.
Its alleged that the deceased only identified as Jessica had separated with her husband known as Nicholas and she has been living with her three year old baby in a rented house at Chepkemel village in Ng’enyilel location, Turbo sub county. She left her baby seated on the doorstep before she took her life.
“Her family is in Mumias and she had been married to a man called Nicholas before the two separated and we have living with her on one rental at Chepkemel, she left in the morning without telling us where she was going to before we received the shocking information,” said her friends.
By the time of going to the press efforts to search for her body were still going on.
