Women have been urged to actively participate in Agribusiness as a way of improving their lifestyles in society.
Speaking on West FM during Usemi Wa Kina mama programme Betty Lihanda a mother, pastor, public health officer says in the current world women need to actively explore means that can help them make steps in life and be counted amongst greatest transformers.
Betty who was born in Matende village, Kakamega County says her childhood life was low as she was from a humble background where boys were prioritized in matters education compared to girls.
She says she attended Matende Primary School then joined Liranda Girls and later hustled out before joining the Kenya Medical Training College in Kakamega.
She says women doing agribusiness have greater opportunity of fending for their families and also provide employment to youth.
She also urges the community to embrace their efforts in the society and support them by giving them pieces of land to carry out farming activities.
Betty says despite women being heard nowadays, they need to be granted a platform and appreciate them more to encourage young women.
The Public health officer says young girls need to be mentored more through various programmes and taught about the prevailing harsh conditions and also impart sense to them as most of them get vulnerable at early stages.
She urges parents to be pace setters and role models in the girls’ lives because they learn so much from them.
She says social media being one of the widely used tool by most young girls and women, should be utilized by providing vital information like educational plays and programmes.
She says women have mostly faced challenges of lack of capital for their businesses, cultural norms about perception of who they are and sometimes lack time to engage in such activities due to other house chores awaiting them.
She advocates for enough training in the grassroots to help many realize and identify themselves.
