Women have been advised to take advantage of the rains that are being witnessed especially in the western region to engage in Agribusiness to make ends meet instead of depending on their male partner for survival.
Speaking during the Usemi Wa Kina Mama show on West FM, Lilian Simiyu a business lady who is involved in modern farming and branding says her journey started two years ago and she has lived her life testifying to women around her by empowering them.
Lilian went to Chwele primary for her KCPE before joining Chwele Girls high and later joined Taji School where she sat for her KCSE. She later joined Zetech College for her ICT course. She explained that as a woman she prioritized engagements that could bring food on her table than depending on employment.
Simiyu says she lost her job during the Covid 19 pandemic and decided to engage in uniforms, printing and design and event planning before heading to farming that changed her life completely.
She attested that it was not easy but as a woman who is focused couldn’t stand the test of falling.
“I am involved in various farming activities that have a range of crops like maize, beans and I even plan to do onion farming,” Nasimiyu said.
She advised women in society to embrace agribusiness that will also enable them to have enough food in their homes. Nasimiyu added that having food in the house reduces the burden of buying which is very expensive.
Nasimiyu encouraged women to join chamas women groups that are development oriented rather than engage in chaep gossip that will ruin their reputation.
Through Usemi wa Kina Mama, Nasimyu in her wrap up encouraged women to support each other, encourage each other to come up and compete for the national cake be it political space or any other position that will add value to the female gender other than looking down upon each other.
