Women across the Country have been challenged to vie for elective posts and any other position that may come their way to enhance gender balance in the employment industry.
Bungoma chief officer for public administration David Kibiti called upon women to be at the fore front in fighting for their constitutional rights against all odds, to rise up and contest for elective positions and to chase for opportunists in county governments.
Kibiti stated that no woman should feel intimidated or discriminated against by their counterparts noting that the constitution has given them the mandate to vie and represent the public in all capacities saying gone are the days when the society used to look down upon women.
“I urge women to stand up and fight for what is rightfully theirs since the constitution has given them a platform to showcase their leadership ability in all levels just like men in the society, no one should discriminate them or underestimate their potential,” he said asking them to come out in large numbers and hunt for for those chances.
He regretted that in many occasions, women have shied away from tenders given to them by county states hence making men advantageous over them.
The officer noted it was time for women to chase for opportunities coming with the devolved system of government to better their lives saying they have equal rights like men.
He said “Sometimes you find out that there are no women to be given tenders as advertised by County governments, I don’t know if they shy away from opportunities but what I want them to know is that they should first know their rights and pursue them.”
Speaking to press, Kibiti pointed out that the County state of Bungoma has rolled out massive civic education campaigns to educate women about their rights stating the drive has been so successful with women turning out to benefit from it .
The campaigns are aimed at sensitizing women about various funds and how to benefit from them through business and grants.
