Women and youths in Nandi have been urged to form groups and register them to be able to access loans from different institutions, loans that will help flourish their businesses.
The chairlady, Kechire women group FC, Elizabeth Neema Emuria a resident of Kiptuiya ward in Chesumei constituency Nandi county, said the groups have helped many women and youths accomplish their shuttered dreams as majority of them are now bread winners of their families.
Speaking to www.westfm.co.ke, Emuria said the group not only participate in sporting events but also engage in other important activities like conservation of environment through makings of improved jikos which uses less firewood.
She narrates that she decided to use sporting activities as a way of promoting other activities for women in the society to help them have knowledge of what to do in order to sustain their day to day life.
The group promotes participation in social and economic forums, Lishe Bora (home economics) where women are taught various methods of cookery, sustainability, self reliance, physical fitness and initiating income generating activities.
The group has 50 Members ranging from the ages of 24-50 and older age which acts as a cheering squad (spectators) during the sporting activities.

Apart from participating in sporting activities, every member practice kitchen gardening, poultry and guinea pig farming and production of fireless cookers which has helped them run their day to day basic needs.
The group which was established last year has played 4 games with 9 points, have drawn 3 and won 3 in North Rift Federation region whereby they emerged 5th position with two trophies.
Joseph Kisuiya the secretary for the Football club said the group is doing a lot of wonders not only in the field but also in their household activities adding that they have moved forward in their knowledge of the work of their hands e.g making of fireless cookers, improved jikos and farming
He said the challenge they face is lack of a promoter to support them especially in sporting activities as they don’t have field attires to enable them play well.
He appealed for any well wisher to chip in and support the women accomplish their football dream saying if well supported the club can do very well to an extend of emerging the best Kenyan team.
Guinea pig farming
A guinea pig is a domestic guinea pig which falls under species of rodent belonging to the family of caviidae and the genus cavia.
Despite their common name this animals are not in the pig family nor are they from guinea, they originated from Andes and earlier studies based on biochemistry and hybridization suggested they are domestic descendants of a closely related species of cavy thus do not exist naturally in the world.

Domestic guinea pigs generally lives in cages although some owners of large numbers of this guinea pigs dedicate entire rooms to their pets.
According to club members they domesticate the guinea pigs in a hole inside their houses where they are well taken care of against their predators.
Their habitat is made of soft wood carvings, grass and sawdust and are fed with grass, sweet potato leaves and weeds.
The animals acts as pets but to the group the animals are for consumption.
They have found a market where they sell the guinea pigs and earn some amount that sustain them.
