The three-day Africa Climate Summit 2023 was officially opened by President William Ruto Monday 4th September at KICC.

At least 20 Heads of State and government are expected to attend the conference which is expected to end on Wednesday 6th September.

At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, JKIA, senior government officials were busy receiving various dignitaries from across the world.

Key among those who jetted in the country are; Presidents Mohamed Yunusu al-Menfi of Libya, Macky Sall of Senegal, Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and Samia Suluhu of Tanzania.

President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo arrived in the country Tuesday 5th September and were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Alfred Mutua.

About 30,000 delegates are attending the African Climate Summit conference, the first ever to be held.

During the official launch of the conference Monday, President Ruto urged African leaders to invest more in plants and machinery that use clean energy to evade the perennial environmental pollution and to do better agriculture that contributes greatly to environmental protection.

“The National Character Dialogue started in 1992 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, it is 31 years later that the conference is being held in Africa for the first time,” said Ruto.

“We have a great ability to use clean energy and natural raw materials that can be used effectively without polluting the environment, but we must also work together to eliminate or reduce the use of machines and plants that emit carbon dioxide gas.”

Among other key issues to be discussed are compensation to Africa by Western countries said to be fully industrialized which emit a lot of gas in the atmosphere and contribute immensely to the climate change being witnessed.
