Yara East Africa fertilizer company has released 13,000 tonnes of fertilizer which is expected to be distributed to small scale farmers free of charge. More than 73,000 farmers across twenty two counties will receive the free fertilizer from Yara East Africa to boost the agriculture sector during the second season of planting starting this August.
Speaking during the launch that took place in the company’s fertilizer store in Syokimau, the Yara East Africa managing director Kenya William Ng’eno together with the sales marketing manager Vitalis Wafula said that the fertilizer will be given to small scale maize farmers in the 22 counties to boost farming during the second season of planting.
PS in the Ministry of Agriculture Andrew Tuimur who presided over the launch thanked Yara East Africa for the donation. He asked other companies and other non governmental organizations to follow suit and help Kenyans during this difficult time.
Leaders including Trans Nzoia county deputy governor Dr Stanley Kenei lauded the move by Yara East Africa. They promised to work hand in hand with the Agriculture ministry towards the achievement of to food security across the country.
