Government spokesman Cyrus Oguna has affirmed that the government has set up measures to deal with the persistent issue of youth unemployment, among them the Youth Development Fund.
The issue of youth unemployment has been increasing in magnitude with every passing year, and some Kenyans have turned to the government to help deal with the shortage of jobs for the youths.
Speaking during a press address, he said it has helped 1.9 million youths so far. “This is a programme that focuses on job creation for the youth and offering opportunities for the youth through enterprise development, facilitating credit access and assisting the youth to secure jobs outside the country,” he said.
On the rollout of the new currency, he said the old Kshs 1000 notes are still legal tender until the stipulated timeframe reaches, contrary to some opinions. He said more guidelines will be issued by CBK on the notes, “Central bank has not been able to issue, and they will issue instructions, that all those notes stop to become legal tender, as of now, they still are.”
