Youths in Vihiga County have moved a petition to Vihiga County Assembly to compel it to enact a law that will exempt them from having job experience as part of the job qualifications, for those seeking employment in the County Government and any other employment entity in the area.

They made the petition to the County Assembly through Vihiga County Youths Organization Network (VCYO).

Vincent Mahasi the Chair of the organization said they have received many complaints from youths in Vihiga who have missed employment opportunities because of the 10 years job experienced.

“Many youths after completing college are finding it hard to get employment because of lack of experience in the jobs they are seeking and this has contributed a lot to unemployment,” he said.

He noted that they presented the petition to Vihiga County Assembly Clerk Ambaka Kilinga and Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.

Mahasi reiterated that unless the Assembly moves with speed to enact the law, many young people will remain unemployed in the County.

“We have given the County Assembly a period of 14 days to get back to us regarding the issue and its progress,” Mahasi said.
