Following the Azimio La Umoja running mate assertion Martha Karua in which she has proposed some politicians to step aside in favor of some leaders who are strong in some areas contest for elective seats has elicited emotions amongst some aspirants in the coalition in Trans Nzoia County.
Kwanza Ward MCA Sarah Lubano has appealed to the leadership of the coalition to desist from calling upon women leaders vying for the seats from stepping aside and that such a move might render men from fully participating in elections since as per the constitution mandate requires 2/3 of women in all the houses of County and National Assembly.
The Trans Nzoia County Assembly legislator who won her seat on an independent candidate noted that the push by Martha Karua to have some leaders step aside in favor of the strong candidate might not see the light as most leaders have already used their resources for campaigns and already cleared by IEBC to vie.
She expressed some of the challenges that women candidates are facing during campaigns among them being ridiculed by their male counterparts as they look down upon women leaders.
Hon. Lubano explained the hurdles she underwent while campaigning during 2017 elections noting that some male politicians harassed her by using goons who intimidated her throughout the campaign period.
The MCA however expressed her confidence of winning the seat on DAP-K, stating that she is finding favor among women who are supporting her and some other women candidates.
