Two people from Mukuyu, village Mautuma location in Lugari Sub County are in police custody in connection with the growth of marijuana. Confirming the incident Lugari OCPD Bernard Macharia said police officers attached to Mlimani patrol base ambushed the two suspects at 3 am before arresting them with several rolls of bhang.
The officers then destroyed hundreds of bhang stems growing on a section of a one-acre maize plantation, estimated to attract thousands of shillings, and which was alleged to have been planted by the two suspects, according to Macharia.
“Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, the officers raided the compound at about 3 am where they found and uprooted the cannabis which had been planted in the middle of a maize plantation,” explained Macharia.
The two were taken and locked at Turbo police station as officers concluded an investigation into the matter before arraigning them in court.
The OCPD has issued a stern warning against consumption of outlawed drugs vowed to beef up the government’s efforts against the vice in the area.
